Tunis: The first leg of the Elite handball Championship super play-off final between Club Africain and Esperance de Tunis at the Rades Sports hall on Wednesday was abandoned with just seconds to go, with Esperance leading 34-25. The derby, attended by Club Africain's fans, was no exception and was a fiercely contested affair between the capital's two great rivals, who finished the first half level on points: 16-15 in favour of Esperance. In the second half, the Bab Souika's side began to extend their lead after 15 minutes (25-20, then 28-22) and increased their advantage to 9 points with 50 seconds left in the game. The end of the game saw a few outbursts from fans throwing projectiles on the ground, forcing the referee to abandon the match with the score 34-25 for Esperance de Tunis. The return leg of the final is scheduled for Sunday at 6pm at the same venue, with Esperance fans' attendance. EM Mahdia defeated Etoile du Sahel 41-36 in the third-place play-off, the first leg of which was played in Souss e. The return leg is scheduled for Sunday in Mahdia.
