High Speed Chase in Galeshewe Leads to Arrest and Seizure of Illegal Firearm

Cape Town: A high-speed chase involving the SAPS Provincial Organized Crime Investigations Unit concluded with the arrest of a male suspect and the confiscation of an illegal firearm and ammunition in Galeshewe, Kimberley.

According to South African Police Service, the incident unfolded on Wednesday, 12 March 2025, at approximately 13:00. SAPS members identified a suspicious NW registered bakkie and attempted to stop it. However, the vehicle sped off towards Galeshewe. During the pursuit, the occupants discarded a black bag containing a 9mm firearm and ammunition.

The chase ended when the driver of the white Nissan NP200 bakkie crashed into a gate and a garage wall of a house in Galeshewe. While the driver managed to flee, police successfully apprehended the 38-year-old male passenger.

The firearm recovered from the scene had a filed-off serial number, and the bakkie was confiscated as it was allegedly used in criminal activities. The police are currently searching for a person of interest, Mxolisi Vundisa, who may have information related to the incident.

The arrested suspect faces multiple charges, including possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, malicious damage to property, reckless and negligent driving, failing to stop upon police instruction, resisting arrest, and defeating the ends of justice. The suspect is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrates Court soon.
