Historic day for Puntland State of Somalia as people cast votes

A historic day for Somalia’s Punland State as people gather to cast their votes since 1967 which was the last time people voted in a one-man-one vote in Somalia on Thursday.

Voters in Bosaso, Galkayo, Burtinle, Badhan, Dhahar and other towns in Somalia’s Puntland State turn out in large numbers for local government elections.

Seven political associations compete with 3,775 candidates, including 28.2% women and notable representation of young candidates.

Voters in Somalia’s Puntland State waited patiently, some over an hour before polling stations opened on Thursday morning, to cast ballots in the historic local government elections.

People queued in lines to participate in the elections to mark the first election in more than 50+ years to be held in Puntland State.
