Pretoria: Home Affairs Minister, Dr Leon Schreiber, officially opened a new modern Home Affairs office at the Cape Town Civic Centre on Monday. The new facility aims to transform the public's experience with Home Affairs by making services more accessible and convenient.
According to South African Government News Agency, the new office supports the Home Affairs @ home initiative by decentralising services and offering them closer to where people live and work. The office's design is modern and welcoming, strategically located near existing City services and public transport options, enhancing accessibility for residents.
The office will operate on a bookings-only basis, allowing clients to schedule visits and avoid the typical long queues. Appointments can be arranged through the department's upgraded online booking platform at www.myhomeaffairsonline.dha.gov.za.
Dr Schreiber highlighted the collaboration with the banking sector, which has already enabled South Africans to access Smart ID replacement services at over 450 bank branches nationwide. The new office at the Civic Centre is part of this broader effort to alleviate the pressure on busier locations like the Barrack Street office, through digital transformation and strategic partnerships. The initiative aims to decentralise access, reduce queues, and deliver dignified service to all citizens.
