Pretoria: Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has extended the acting period of the Executive Director of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), Dr Hlengani Bila, until the vacancy is filled. This decision ensures stability and effective leadership within the Directorate, as stated by Cachalia on Tuesday.

According to South African Government News Agency, this extension has the support of the Portfolio Committee on Police. Dr Bila has been serving as the acting Executive Director since August 2025, following the end of the former IPID Head Jennifer Ntlatseng’s contract.

The process to appoint a permanent Executive Director is currently in progress, with further updates expected as developments occur.
