Isipingo SAPS Multi-organizational Operation – “Operation Hamba Naye” – Walking together

KWAZULU-NATAL – Members from the SAPS Isipingo, the Department of Employment and Labour’s inspectors today joined “Operation Hamba Naye” at Isipingo, South of Durban

The Department of Employment and Labour’s inspectors from the Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) in KwaZulu-Natal formed part of a multi-departmental and organisation operation to enforce compliance to South Africa’s labour laws.

The joint multi-government departments and organisation initiative, was led and guided by Isipingo Vispol Commander, Lt Colonel B E Nene.

The Department’s inspectors were on various sites checking compliance with basic conditions of Employment Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Unemployment Insurance Fund Act, Compensation for Occupation Injuries and Diseases Act as well as compliance with the National Minimum Wage.

The operation was also joined by SAPS Crime Intelligence, SAPS Public Order Policing, Metro Police, Home Affairs’ Immigration Officers, South African Revenue Services as well as National Bargaining Council for Road Freight and Logistics Industry.

The operation was a great success with multiple arrests made for illegal immigrants and road traffic offences. Also, 641 bales on non-branded clothing to the value of R555 816-00 was recovered. The goods were found to be imported into the country, where it was falsely declared to SARS Customs to be rolls of fabric and not clothing as found. The case is under investigation.

The Acting Ethekwini District Commissioner, Brigadier V.J Cele said, “This signals, a beginning for other, such united operations and to continue to fight crime in all different sectors within the community!”
