Johannesburg: Two suspects, aged 31 and 38, will appear before Protea Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
According to South African Police Service, on 19 June 2025 at about 05:00, the police in Naledi received information about the body of a man who sustained gunshot injuries lying along the street at Tladi. Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had an argument with the 31-year-old suspect. The suspect then pulled out a firearm and shot the deceased. He was certified dead at the scene. The suspect was arrested for murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
In a separate incident, on 20 June 2025 at about 11:00, the police in Naledi were patrolling around the Emdeni area when they spotted a suspicious vehicle with about four occupants driving at a high speed. The police gave chase, and the suspects’ vehicle hit a tree. The suspects then jumped out of the vehicle and fled in different directions. The police cornered one suspect, aged 38, who was in possession of a firearm. He was searched, along with his vehicle, and the police recovered a rifle and another pistol with ammunition inside the trunk of the vehicle. The suspect was also arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The other three suspects are still at large.
Police investigations are continuing.
The Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Alfred Ndebele applauded the members for their vigilance and commitment to removing illegal firearms from the streets.
