Justice Minister Appoints Ntuthuzelo Vanara as Acting Head of IDAC

Pretoria: Advocate Ntuthuzelo Vanara has been appointed as the Acting Head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) until a permanent incumbent is appointed. The appointment was made by Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi following the resignation of Advocate Andrea Johnson, whose request to resign with immediate effect was accepted by President Cyril Ramaphosa in July. According to South African Government News Agency, Vanara is recognized as a senior executive with extensive legal, governance, and regulatory experience, spanning over 25 years across various state institutions, state-owned enterprises, and other regulated environments. Prior to his appointment, Vanara held the position of Group Executive: Legal, Governance and Regulatory at the South African Broadcasting Corporation and has served in senior leadership roles at the Parliament of South Africa. His expertise extends across pension fund management, audit and risk oversight, as well as ethics and go vernance structures. Vanara's academic credentials include a B. Proc qualification from Vista University and both LLB and LLM qualifications from the University of the Free State. In his current capacity, he serves as Chief Legal Counsel of the Special Investigating Unit, where he provides strategic leadership with an emphasis on civil litigation, asset recovery, corporate legal services, and compliance management. In his new role, Vanara will join IDAC on a secondment basis and assume his responsibilities immediately. The Justice and Constitutional Development Minister has expressed full confidence in Vanara's ability to lead IDAC with integrity and a strong commitment to his duties.
