One of the year's most acclaimed releases, Four Daughters by Oscar-nominated Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania won Best Documentary at the 39th annual American Independent Spirit Awards, held on February 25-26, 2024 in Santa Monica, USA. This latest accolade follows just two days after the César for Best Documentary Film, which was awarded on February 23 at the Olympia in Paris. On its way to the 96th Oscars ceremony, due in Los Angeles on the night of 10-11 March, this fifth feature-length docu-drama by the Tunisian filmmaker has aroused the interest of international critics, and has won a string of major awards at prestigious international festivals, including the 76th Cannes Film Festival in 2023, where it bagged four prizes. Four Daughters "clinched the best documentary award, a testament to its poignant narrative and exceptional craftsmanship. The film, which explores the harrowing journey of Olfa Hamrouni as she grapples with the reality of her daughters joining Daesh, has been a critical darling since its inception. Its recognition at the awards not only highlights the power of documentary filmmaking but also shines a spotlight on the stories that often remain untold in the mainstream media," according to BNN Breaking.
