Pretoria:The Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, John Steenhuisen, will join KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Lukas Marthinus Meyer, to launch the province's Public Works and Infrastructure Property Finding Portal.
According to South African Government News Agency, this initiative follows the completed audit of 10,067 assets owned by the KZN Public Works and Infrastructure. Additionally, it coincides with the release of 81 unused buildings and land parcels to the public.
The property finding portal, accessible on the department's website, aims to enhance transparency and serve as a platform for NGOs, developers, and private sector entities. It allows these groups to identify assets for acquisition and propose ways to repurpose and optimize them for community benefit, including long-term leases and improved utilization.
For residents, the portal provides a way to log complaints or queries regarding the condition of KZN Public Works and Infrastructure's assets.
After the launch, the MEC and Deputy Minister will visit a site that has been transformed from an underutilized asset into a skills development hub, which is creating employment and opportunities for young people.
