Nizar Safiya, with 212 votes (49.53%) in the first round, and Ali El-Hadfi, with 123 votes (28.74%), are running for the Tozeur local council in the Haouedef constituency. Both candidates agreed to protect and preserve the old medina of Tozeur. The second round of local council elections in the Tozeur delegation will be held in six constituencies, following the election of four members in the first round. Candidate Nizar Safiya (46, a graduate, working in the Regional Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts) has made the old medina his priority. In his manifesto, he promised to restore the old medina as a tourist destination and to include it in the world's tangible and intangible heritage. He also proposes a number of points relating to the maintenance of infrastructure, the improvement of roads, the preservation of the neighbourhood, cleanliness and the decoration of the facades of houses in the Tbebssa district. The candidate's programme also includes the need to increase investment and encourage en trepreneurship in order to reduce unemployment, support vulnerable social groups and preserve the environment. To improve certain public services, the candidate proposes to transform the health unit in the Chebbi region into a local hospital, to renovate the children's computer centre and to create a date market. The situation of the old medina was also highlighted in the manifesto of Ali El-Hadfi, a 39-year-old university graduate working in the private sector. He proposed preserving, restoring and reconstructing buildings in danger of falling into disrepair, maintaining drinking water networks, treating waste water and installing public lighting, as well as creating sources of income by opening craft shops, tourist restaurants and cultural cafés.
