Mario Solinas 2023 International Competition: Six prizes awarded to Tunisian companies

Tunisian olive oil has been crowned, for the 2nd consecutive time, by obtaining the prize of the best olive oil in the world, at the international competition Mario Solinas for the year 2023, organised by the International Olive Oil Council (IOC), the Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Fisheries said on Tuesday.

Six prizes were awarded to participating Tunisian companies specialising in the production, packaging and export of olive oil.

A silver medal was awarded to the woman company Ali Sfar for the light green fruity olive oil, and a bronze medal was awarded to Barhoumi Olive Oil for the ripe fruity olive oil.

The other prizes were awarded to Bechir Jarraya / Um Aljanna domain (1st prize), to Tamarnis Oil Olive Oil Ben Chaabane and Mezghani Omar / Tazmurt (2nd prize) and to Boubaker / Olissey olive grove (3rd prize).

The Ministry of Agriculture described these results as “exceptional”, especially since they were achieved despite unfavourable weather conditions and a decline in olive oil production for the current season.

During the 2022/2023 campaign, the national production of olive oil has decreased by 25% compared to the previous campaign, reaching 180 thousand tonnes, according to the National Oil Office (ONH).

This year, olive production (211 thousand tonnes) was below the national average recorded during the last decade.
