Matrics Urged to Celebrate Safely.

Cape Town: The Western Cape Provincial Government has urged matrics to celebrate the end of their school career responsibly and safely, as the final matric exams are being written today. The final matric exams for the Class of 2024 will be written today, bringing to an end the five-week exam period. The final exams to be written are Agricultural Management Practices, Marine Sciences Paper 2, and Design Paper 1.

According to South African Government News Agency, the Western Cape Education MEC, David Maynier, expressed gratitude to the public for their support during the exam period, which has ensured that all candidates could write their exams despite challenges. With exams concluding, many learners plan to attend formal matric rage events and smaller end-of-exams parties. Maynier emphasized the importance of celebrating responsibly and safely.

The MEC advised matrics to familiarize themselves with safety measures at events, stay vigilant about their valuables and beverages, and report any suspicious activit
ies to the South African Police Service or event organizers. He also highlighted the dangers of drinking and driving and recommended setting up a buddy system for safety and maintaining regular contact with parents.

Maynier encouraged parents to discuss the risks associated with events and parties with their children and ensure they have plans to stay in contact and know what to do in emergencies. The national matric results will be announced on Monday, 13 January 2025, to coincide with the first day of school. Individual results will be available at schools and on the Western Cape Education Department website from 10h00 on Tuesday, 14 January 2025. Maynier expressed anticipation for celebrating with matrics when results are released next year.
