The first edition of the Outapi Mayoral Cup officially kicked off at Outapi ' s Olufuko Centre in the Omusati region on Saturday . The tournament which attracted 42 teams in the categories of soccer and netball is set to conclude on 10 September 2024 . In her remarks at the opening of the tournament , Outapi Town Mayor Selma Asino said sports is far more than just a game , it is a beacon of talent , growth , and opportunity , hence the council invested an amount of N . dollars 100 000 . She said the tournament attracted 25 youth soccer teams , eight legend teams , and nine netball teams , noting that sports give people a platform to shine , foster the spirit of teamwork , and promote a healthy and active lifestyle . ' Beyond the thrill of competition , sports opens doors to countless opportunities , helps us forge lasting connections , and strengthens the fabric of our community ,' she said Asino emphasised that this tournament is not only a celebration of athletic excellence but also a chance for the youth and vendors to showcase their talents and contribute to the economic vibrancy of the town .
