Cape town: National Treasury has announced that the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) will be tabled in Parliament on 12 November 2025. This comes after media reports erroneously claimed that the MTBPS would be presented in January of the following year. According to South African Government News Agency, the Treasury criticized the media for publishing the incorrect date without verification. Parliament has since published its schedule for the fourth term, confirming 12 November 2025 as the date for the MTBPS tabling. The National Treasury assured that its officials are actively engaged in preparations for the MTBPS. Parliament confirmed the scheduling, with the National Assembly (NA) Programme Committee deciding that Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana will present the MTBPS, in accordance with the constitutional and legislative guidelines for the budget process. Additionally, the NA plans to consider and adopt the MTBPS on 13 January 2026, after completing the necessary committee procedures. T he delay in tabling and considering this year's MTBPS is attributed to the national budget being presented later than usual, due to challenges already known to the public. Consequently, subsequent budgetary processes, including the MTBPS, have been adjusted. Parliament has ensured that these adjustments adhere to constitutional mandates while accommodating the delays, maintaining scrutiny, accountability, and public participation, as stated by Parliament Spokesperson Moloto Mothapo. The national budget was initially re-tabled on 21 May 2025.
