WINDHOEK: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) seized nearly 745 000 kilogrammes of cannabis during a series of operations around the country in July. NamPol in a statement on Thursday said various drug substances were confiscated and 130 individuals arrested between 01 and 31 July. The police seized a total of 744 890.33 kilogrammes of cannabis; 850 Mandrax tablets; 123.5 grams of cocaine powder, and 97 units of crack cocaine during the operations. Of the 130 people arrested, 120 were Namibian nationals and the remaining 10 suspects were foreign nationals - one Burundian national, one Congolese, three Batswana, one Tanzanian, three Zambians, and one Zimbabwean national. The Head of NamPol's public relations division, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi in the statement highlighted the importance of regional and international cooperation in addressing drug trafficking, particularly in dealing with the involvement of foreign nationals in these crimes. The operations in July are part of a broader strategy to intensify efforts against drug-related activities in the country, the statement said. Source : The Namibia News Agency
