KIMBERLEY – The Acting District of the Pixley Ka Seme, Brigadier Nomana Adonis, commended the Station Commanders of the Marydale, Niekerkshoop and Philipstown for successful intensified crime prevention operations executed over the weekend.
The focus of the operations amongst other things was to combat crimes related to illegal transportation of stolen goods, drug trafficking, stock theft, stolen vehicles, contact crimes and undocumented persons.
More than 10 suspects were apprehended for various crimes which included illegal possession of ammunition, possession of stolen goods, dealing in liquor illegally and stock theft across the Pixley Ka Seme District.
Police in Marydale conducted search and seizure operations in the neighbourhood. Three houses were raided, where 120 litres of home brewed alcohol was confiscated and destroyed and a 47-year-old person was issued with a fine for dealing in liquor illegally.
During the operation members spotted a suspicious looking white bakkie, driving without number plates and it was pulled off the road. The driver was found illegally in possession of a rifle and ammunition.
On Sunday, 22 August 2022 at approximately 09:15 the members of the Marydale acted on information, following a stock theft complaint. According to the report, two goats were stolen and slaughtered. The information led the members to the residence of a 29-year-old man, who was found in possession of meat products believed to be of the goats which were reported stolen.
The suspect could not provide the police with satisfactory information, with regards to the meat products which he was in possession of. He was arrested and he is facing a charge of stock theft.
In an unrelated stock theft charge, Philipstown police acted on a tip-off and raided three houses in Lukhanyusweni where three female suspects were arrested subsequent to be found in possession of meat products believed to be of stolen sheep.
The suspects failed to provide the police with a satisfactory explanation, of how they came to possess the meat products.
A multi-disciplinary static road block and vehicle check points were held on the N10 and R357 roads by members of Prieska, Niekerkshoop police, Home Affairs officials and the Northern Cape Provincial Traffic Officers.
Traffic fines amounting to R12 300-00 were issued to motorist for contravening the Road Traffic Act, one undocumented person was arrested and approximately 100,00 ml of home brewed alcohol was confiscated and destroyed at two houses which were dealing in liquor illegally.
During the static roadblock and vehicle checkpoints, members who formed part of the road block which included NGO’s such as FAMSA and ACVV distributed pamphlets to raise awareness regarding the Gender Based Violence.
The suspects are expected to appear in separate courts across the Pixley Ka Seme Districts respectively, on charges ranging from stock theft, possession of stolen goods, contravention of the immigration act and illegal possession of ammunition.
