Pretoria: Police in Standerton have arrested three suspects, aged between 33 and 47, in connection with a card scamming incident. The arrests took place today, 18 July 2025, at approximately 13:50 on the R39 road between Morgenzon and Standerton. According to South African Police Service, at around 12:30, a security company responded to a complaint about a card scam that occurred at an ATM at a local filling station. CCTV footage from the filling station captured images of the suspects and the vehicle used in the crime. The police were activated and, during patrols in a nearby complex, spotted the vehicle matching the description. Upon noticing the police presence, the suspects attempted to flee towards Morgenzon via the R39 road. Officers gave chase and swiftly intercepted the vehicle. The suspects, who are residents of Daveyton, were found in possession of several bank cards. The vehicle, believed to have been used in the commission of the crime, was confiscated. The three suspects are expected to appea r before the Standerton District Court on Monday, 21 July 2025. Investigations are ongoing, and police are looking into the possibility that the suspects may be linked to other similar cases in the area. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has applauded both the police officers and the security company for their swift action and collaboration in apprehending the suspects.
