Police Commended for Maintaining Order in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng

Durban:Acting National Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has praised police officers and other law enforcement agencies for their effective, intelligence-led efforts to uphold law and order, especially in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

According to South African Government News Agency, police operations have resulted in the arrest of 30 individuals since last Thursday. These arrests include 25 in KwaZulu-Natal and five in Gauteng, with charges ranging from public violence to illegal gatherings, obstruction, and resisting arrest. Among those arrested were individuals identified as ringleaders who allegedly threatened to disrupt football matches in Durban.

Lieutenant General Dimpane emphasized that the South African Police Service (SAPS) is committed to preventing threats, intimidation, or unlawful activities that compromise public safety, disrupt events, or destabilize communities. She assured that the police would act decisively and within legal boundaries to uphold public order and safety.

The commendation extended to members of the SAPS, Crime Intelligence, and other law enforcement agencies led by Provincial Commissioners for their relentless efforts to maintain stability under difficult conditions. The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) and Provincial Joint Operational and Intelligence Structures (PROVJOINTS) continue to ensure efficient, intelligence-driven responses.

The South African National Defence Force's (SANDF) deployment in KwaZulu-Natal is part of broader efforts alongside the SAPS to stabilize the region. Police remain vigilant nationwide, swiftly addressing incidents in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and Limpopo.

Dimpane highlighted that while the Constitution protects peaceful assembly and protest, it does not condone intimidation, looting, or violence. The police are prepared to respond firmly and impartially to any criminal acts.

She also urged communities to collaborate with the police, share information, and avoid engaging in unlawful activities that threaten lives and livelihoods. The priority remains the prevention of violence and the protection of all individuals, with a focus on maintaining peace and preventing loss of life.
