Police Seek Information After Double Murder and Attempted Murder in New Brighton


Gqeberha: The Nelson Mandela Metro Detective Intervention Task Team in Gqeberha is urgently appealing to the public for any information that can lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of suspects involved in a tragic shooting incident. The incident occurred on Friday, 18 July 2025, in Kwazakele, resulting in the death of a man and a teenager, and leaving a young boy injured.



According to South African Police Service, the tragic event unfolded at approximately 15:10 when the deceased, a 29-year-old man, returned to his home on Sidindi Street, Kwazakele after a shopping trip. He was accompanied by his girlfriend, her 12-year-old daughter, his 13-year-old sister, and his 9-year-old brother. As the girlfriend and her daughter entered the house, multiple gunshots were heard. Witnesses reported seeing approximately six suspects firing multiple shots at the vehicle before fleeing the scene.



The 29-year-old man was found dead in the driver’s seat of his silver VW Polo, and the 13-year-old girl, who was in the back seat, also died at the scene. The 9-year-old boy sustained injuries to both legs and was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The motive for the shooting and the identities of the suspects remain unknown as the investigation continues. The names of the deceased will be disclosed once their next of kin have been informed.
