Luanda: President Cyril Ramaphosa, accompanied by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola, has arrived in Angola to attend the 7th African Union-European Union Summit. The summit kicks off today and will close on Tuesday.
According to South African Government News Agency, the 7th AU-EU Summit occurs amid significant threats to global peace and security, and ongoing conflicts in some regions of the world. Other global challenges include a trend toward unilateralism by certain states, as noted in a statement from the Presidency.
The summit follows the successful 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, which was led by President Cyril Ramaphosa. Both the African Union and the European Union played crucial roles in reaching a consensus during South Africa’s year-long G20 Presidency on key issues affecting the global economy and human society.
South Africa, as a Member State of the AU, aims to secure EU support for the Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan of the AU Agenda 2063. The summit will focus on strengthening political and economic ties between the two continental blocs.
The summit will feature two plenary thematic sessions: Thematic Session I on Peace, Security and Governance and Multilateralism, and Thematic Session II on Prosperity, People – Migration and Mobility. The African Union will be led by host President Joo Louren§o and His Excellency Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the AU Commission. Europe will be represented by the President of the European Council, Ant³nio Costa, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and leaders from various European nations.
