Tunis: President Kais Saied, on Tuesday morning, decorated the 2023 Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry, Moungi Bawendi, with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Republic. The ceremony was an opportunity for the President of the Republic to emphasise the Tunisian state's commitment to education, scientific research and the creation of appropriate conditions for Tunisians to rise to the highest scientific ranks, according to a Presidency statement. He stressed that Tunisia is rich in experts, a source of national pride, and that many countries turn to Tunisia because they believe in its outstanding international scientific level in all fields, including those that are precise and modern. In October 2023, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry to three US-based researchers working in the field of nanotechnology. Among them was Tunisian Moungi Bawendi, born in Paris in 1961, who also holds French and American citizenship. Bawendi is currently visiting Tunisia to give a seri es of lectures at the Diplomatic Academy, the City of Sciences and the National School of Engineers. Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
