Tunis: The text of the regulatory decision setting out the candidacy conditions and procedures for the presidential election to be held next October 6, was published on Monday by the Independent High Authority for Elections (French: ISIE). This decision, which amends and supplements Decision No. 18 of 2014, sets out the candidacy conditions, sponsorship procedures and documents required for the candidacy file. According to the second (new) paragraph of Article 3, the candidate must be of Tunisian nationality, born of Tunisian parents and maternal and paternal grandparents, pursuant to the provisions of Article 89 of the Constitution. Article 3 of this decision also stipulates that candidates must be at least 40 years old on the day they submit their candidacy, in accordance with Article 89 of the Constitution. A further point has also been added to Article 3, relating to persons not entitled to stand as candidates, namely those sentenced to the penalties provided for in Articles 161 (new) and 163 (new) of the Electoral Law and Article 30 of the Penal Code.
