Prime Minister chairs ministerial working session on foreign exchange code

Prime Minister Najla Bouden Romdhane chaired, Thursday at the Government Palace in Kasbah, a ministerial working session devoted to the continuation of the examination of the file of the revision of the foreign exchange regime, which is part of the national reform programmes announced by the government to improve the business and investment climate.

The meeting was an opportunity to review the progress of the development of the exchange code, stressing the importance of combining the efforts of all parties concerned in the framework of dialogue and a participatory approach to develop an exchange code that meets the expectations of economic actors to boost investment, improve the business climate and internationalise institutions to adapt to technological change in addition to the digitisation of financial transactions with foreign countries, says a statement issued by the Prime Ministry

This new project aims to “modernise the foreign exchange system and adopt the principle of a gradual approach to achieve the phase of total liberalisation of financial exchanges with foreign countries while preserving macroeconomic balances,” according to the statement.

This project is part of “the improvement of the business climate, the adaptation of foreign exchange legislation to the evolution of national and international legislation and the removal of various obstacles hindering the commercial and financial exchanges of Tunisian companies with foreign countries.

The governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, Marouane Abassi declared on January 4, 2023, that the draft of the foreign exchange code was submitted to the Prime Ministry, underlining that this law will allow for the “progressive” and “total” liberation of the Tunisian dinar.
