Public Warned of Fake Chief Justice Social Media Profiles


Pretoria: The Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) has issued a warning to the public regarding fraudulent social media accounts that falsely claim to represent Chief Justice Mandisa Maya. The OCJ has made it clear that Chief Justice Maya does not maintain any personal or official social media accounts on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter/X, or TikTok.



According to South African Government News Agency, the OCJ advised against engaging with any social media accounts or profiles purporting to belong to Chief Justice Maya. The public is being urged to report these fake profiles to prevent the spread of misinformation and potential scams. The OCJ emphasized that any communication allegedly from the Chief Justice that appears suspicious should be verified by contacting the official email address provided: [email protected].



In related news, the process for appointing new members to the Electoral Commission is set to advance next week. A panel led by the Chief Justice of the Republic of South Africa, which includes the Public Protector and the chairpersons of both the Commission for Gender Equality and the South African Human Rights Commission, will conduct interviews on July 21 and 22, 2025. These interviews are for three vacancies within the Electoral Commission, as established under section 6 of the Electoral Commission Act, 1996. The OCJ has encouraged media and public participation, announcing that the interviews will be streamed live on the Judiciary’s YouTube channel.
