R9 Million Infrastructure Projects Enhance eNgonyameni’s Access to Essential Services

Durban:Residents of eNgonyameni, located south of Durban, are set to experience enhanced access to schools, healthcare facilities, and public transport following the completion of road, bridge, and water infrastructure projects valued at approximately R9 million.

According to South African Government News Agency, these projects were officially handed over by eThekwini Municipality Mayor Cyril Xaba and Water and Sanitation Deputy Minister David Mahlobo. The newly completed infrastructure includes an access bridge, a one-kilometre concrete road, two rural borehole networks, and housing through the Vumengazi Rural Housing Project and its rectification programme.

The municipality allocated R8 million towards the road and bridge project, replacing infrastructure that had been frequently damaged by flooding. This concrete infrastructure is designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, offering a reliable transport link that facilitates access to public services.

These initiatives are part of the municipality's service delivery acceleration programme aimed at improving rural development and quality of life. Mayor Xaba emphasized the importance of safeguarding the new infrastructure against vandalism, noting that such actions hinder community development and resource allocation for other areas in need.

Furthermore, the Tafelkop Borehole Project, valued at about R1 million, was handed over as part of efforts to address water shortages in areas without formal piped networks. This initiative includes the installation of 94 boreholes in targeted communities, serving as a temporary solution while broader water infrastructure enhancements are underway.

Deputy Minister Mahlobo praised the city's progress in expanding water infrastructure and exploring alternative supply measures to improve water access.
