Remittances in foreign currency by Tunisians living abroad reach TND 7 billion, end of October (OTE)

Remittances in foreign currency by Tunisians living abroad reached some TND 7 billion in late October 2023, covering 65% of Tunisia’s foreign debt for 2023, Director General of the Office of Tunisians Abroad (OTE) Mounir Kharbi said on Thursday.

Remittances in foreign currency by Tunisians living abroad stood at the same level as in 2022, at TND 9 billion, covering the whole foreign debt, he told the media on the fringes of a seminar organised by OTE on “Investment by Tunisians abroad and the institutional aspect.”

The official affirmed that investments made by the 1.833 million Tunisians living abroad had reached around TND 133 million in 2022, contributing to the creation of 1504 projects.

Tunisians living abroad are confronted with several obstacles preventing them from investing in Tunisia, he pointed out, specifying that the regional conferences on development and investment organised by the OTE during the summer of 2023 had helped pinpoint most of the investment difficulties.

The OTE official indic
ated that this seminar, organised under the auspices of the Social Affairs Ministry, aims to bring together all stakeholders in the development sector in a bid to overcome all difficulties and propose effective solutions.
