SA to Host Ninth SACU Summit in Cape Town

Cape town: South Africa is set to host the 9th Southern African Customs Union (SACU) Summit of Heads of State or Government, alongside the 56th SACU Council of Ministers and Quarterly Meetings of SACU Institutions. These significant gatherings will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre 2 (CTICC2) from 18-26 June 2026.

According to South African Government News Agency, the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (dtic) announced that the meetings will see the participation of Heads of State and Government, Ministers, senior government officials, and delegates from member countries, including Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, and South Africa.

SACU, established in the 1880s under British colonial rule, holds a longstanding place in regional cooperation, predating many modern trade and customs agreements. It is recognized as the oldest functioning Customs Union in the world. The upcoming summit and meetings in Cape Town are expected to reinforce regional trade relationships and address contemporary economic challenges faced by the member states.
