SANParks Announces Free Entry to Kgodumodumo Dinosaur Interpretive Centre

Pretoria: Entry into the newly launched Kgodumodumo Dinosaur Interpretive Centre in the Free State will be free to the public until 30 September 2025.

According to South African Government News Agency, the South African National Parks (SANParks) stated that the centre’s launch at the Golden Gate Highlands National Park on Sunday marked a significant date in South Africa’s cultural heritage.

The Kgodumodumo Dinosaur Interpretive Centre is an interactive facility that provides visitors with demonstrations of scientific knowledge in paleontology, archaeology, and geology. In recognition of this development, SANParks announced that free entry would be available to all visitors until the specified date in 2025.

Schools, tertiary students, communities near the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, and Thabo Mafutsenyane District Municipality residents are among those who will benefit from this offering. To gain entry, visitors must present a valid identification document.

The centre was launched by the Department of Tourism in partnership with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE). Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille noted that the government aims to diversify the country’s tourism attractions to stimulate growth in the sector.

DFFE Minister, Dr. Dion George, highlighted the centre as a powerful tool for environmental education. The facility combines science, culture, and conservation to celebrate South Africa’s prehistoric heritage, allowing visitors to explore ancient history while inspiring future protection efforts.

Managed by SANParks, the centre is expected to enhance bed occupancy and increase activities for park visitors. It is anticipated to be a key driver for local economic development, job creation, and tourism growth in the eastern Free State.
