SASSA Urges Beneficiaries to Utilize Biometric Verification Services

Mpumalanga: The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in Mpumalanga is encouraging beneficiaries of the R370 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to visit local offices for biometric verification services. This initiative is particularly aimed at those without internet access or a smartphone.

According to South African Government News Agency, SASSA announced that its offices are equipped with kiosks, official laptops, and guest Wi-Fi to assist beneficiaries with identity verification. The agency aims to ensure timely grant disbursement and minimize delays and frustrations, as stated by Acting Regional Executive Manager, Xolela Mpambani.

Mpambani noted that SRD grant applications could be declined if an external database, including financial institutions, detects a source of income. Beneficiaries have the right to appeal if dissatisfied with the reasons for the decline.

SASSA also advises beneficiaries to protect their personal information, warning that scammers may target vulnerable recipients. Beneficiaries should not share sensitive information and should verify the identity of anyone requesting personal details.
