Johannesburg: The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued several advisories for very cold, wet, and windy conditions expected to hit KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, the Western Cape, and the Northern Cape on Friday. The advisory highlights potential impacts on various regions as the adverse weather conditions approach.
According to South African Government News Agency, SAWS has forecast wet and windy conditions over most parts of KwaZulu-Natal, with very cold conditions anticipated in the Chris Hani and Joe Gqabi district municipalities in the Eastern Cape. Similar harsh weather is expected in Namakwa in the Northern Cape and the interior of the Western Cape.
The weather service has also cautioned against extremely high fire danger conditions in the eastern parts of the Free State and North West, as well as central and northern parts of Limpopo.
The issued warnings include an Orange Level 5 warning for severe thunderstorms in the east-central Northern Cape, potentially leading to flooding, wind and hail damage, and disruption to services. Additionally, several Yellow Level 4 warnings highlight risks of localized flooding, damaging winds, and dangerous sea conditions across various regions, including parts of the Northern Cape, Free State, North West, KwaZulu-Natal, and Western Cape.
Further Yellow Level 2 warnings indicate risks of damaging waves and winds affecting temporary structures, settlements, transport routes, and causing localized flooding in parts of the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Mpumalanga, and Gauteng.
