Durban: The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for heavy rain along the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), which may lead to localised flooding on Saturday. The persistent rainfall is anticipated to cause significant challenges in the region over the weekend.
According to South African Government News Agency, isolated showers and rain are expected, with scattered showers along the south coast and southern parts of KZN. The rainfall is projected to reach between 30 to 50mm, raising concerns about localised flooding in those areas. These weather conditions are likely to disrupt formal and informal settlements, low-lying roads, and bridges.
SAWS further cautioned that the adverse weather conditions could result in difficult driving situations, particularly on dirt roads, leading to potential minor motor vehicle accidents due to reduced visibility and slippery surfaces. There is also a risk of localised damage to mud-built houses.
In its extended weather outlook for the weekend, SAWS predicted partly cloudy conditions in the east, with isolated to scattered showers. Along the west and south coast, fine and cold to cool conditions are expected, accompanied by damaging waves.
