Johannesburg: The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms predicted to affect Gauteng and the western and southern parts of Mpumalanga on Thursday. According to South African Government News Agency, thunderstorms are expected to begin forming from the late afternoon over southern Gauteng and southern Mpumalanga. These weather systems are anticipated to advance northwards, impacting the rest of Gauteng and the western regions of Mpumalanga in the evening. Forecasts indicate scattered rainfall ranging from 15mm to 25mm, with potential heavy downpours reaching up to 30mm to 40mm in certain areas. This weather pattern raises the possibility of localized flooding, particularly in vulnerable areas, including roads, low-lying regions, and informal settlements, due to the expected heavy rainfalls.
