Sidi Bouzid: A project to build a photovoltaic station will be carried out, next May, in the locality of El Khobna , delegation of Mezzouna ( Sidi Bouzid governorate) . The construction works will extend over a period of 14 months at a total cost TND 130 million. The project is part of the national strategy to diversify energy sources. It seeks to meet 30% of energy needs by 2030 through solar energy which will contribute to reducing the costs of the subsidy allocated to the energy bill. The solar station covers 100 hectares, with a production capacity of 50 megawatt (MW). It will help preserve the environment, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create jobs. The station will also help manage water resources more effectively as well as attract investments in the field of sustainable development in a bid to improve the living conditions of the locals.
