South Africa Calls for Dialogue Amid US Involvement in Israel-Iran Conflict

Pretoria: President Cyril Ramaphosa and the South African government have expressed deep concern over the United States’ entry into the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

According to South African Government News Agency, the government has noted the US’s involvement in the conflict with significant anxiety. This reaction follows the United States’ military action on Saturday night, where bunker buster bombs and Tomahawk missiles were used to target Iranian nuclear sites.

In a statement on social media platforms Truth Social and X, former President Donald Trump announced the completion of a “successful attack” on three Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. He confirmed that all aircraft involved in the operation have safely exited Iranian airspace.

The South African Presidency expressed hope that President Trump would leverage his influence, along with the US government, to encourage dialogue among the parties involved in the conflict. The statement emphasized South Africa’s call for the United States, Israel, and Iran to allow the United Nations to lead efforts toward a peaceful resolution. This includes facilitating inspections and verification of Iran’s uranium enrichment activities and its broader nuclear capabilities.

The recent US attacks occurred shortly after a series of missile exchanges between Israel and Iran, further intensifying tensions in the region.
