South Africa Celebrates Record-Breaking Matric Achievements Across Provinces


Cape town: As the Matric Class of 2025 celebrates a historic national pass rate of 88% – the highest in the country’s history – the spotlight has fallen on learners whose individual journeys reflect resilience, discipline and unwavering faith. From the Western Cape to Limpopo and Mpumalanga, South Africa’s top achievers have shown that excellence is not shaped by circumstance alone, but by perseverance, purpose and belief.



According to South African Government News Agency, Abigail Kok, a learner from York High School in the Western Cape, emerged as the Top National Achiever in the 2025 National Senior Certificate examinations. Abigail expressed that the achievement still feels unreal, sharing her thoughts with SAnews. Known for her academic brilliance, sporting excellence, and leadership, Abigail highlighted that her greatest challenge was managing her own high expectations. Her matric year was defined by discipline and balance, involving a structured timetable, consistent effort, and a focus on avoiding procrastination. Abigail credits her primary school principal, Van Wyk Dames, as a lasting source of inspiration. Looking ahead, she plans to study Actuarial Science at Stellenbosch University, with hopes of transitioning into Data Science. Her message to the Class of 2026 is one of hard work, enjoyment, and perseverance.



From Khweha Commercial School in Limpopo, Mutshidzi Audrey Ramovha was named the Top Achiever in Accounting in Quintile 1, 2, and 3 schools. She described her achievement as unexpected yet affirming. Mutshidzi’s journey was marked by a difficult transition from Grade 9 to Grade 10, leading her to seek support from a social worker. Inspired by her grandmother, she aimed to change her family’s story, aspiring to be the first in her family to attend university. Her determination earned her multiple awards, including recognition as the top learner in Economics, Business Studies, and Accounting. Mutshidzi aspires to study Chartered Accountancy, driven by the example set by the CEO of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.



In Mpumalanga, Siyanda Welcome Nkuna from Inkomazi Secondary School achieved a perfect score in Mathematics, earning 300 out of 300 marks. Siyanda attributed his success to personal accountability and prayer. He tackled academic challenges like Organic Chemistry with determination, using online resources to master the subject. Siyanda’s achievements include being the best Mathematics learner for the entire 2025 academic year. He offered encouragement to the Class of 2026, reminding them that the pain of studying now will lead to joy next year.
