South Africa Commends Iraq on Successful Parliamentary Elections


Pretoria: South Africa has extended its congratulations to Iraq following the successful completion of its parliamentary elections on November 11, 2025. The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), representing the South African government and its citizens, praised Iraq for conducting a smooth electoral process.



According to South African Government News Agency, the Independent High Electoral Commission announced that the coalition led by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emerged victorious in the elections. The Reconstruction and Change coalition, under al-Sudani’s leadership, secured 1.3 million votes, surpassing their nearest rival by approximately 370,000 votes.



DIRCO expressed that the successful elections are a testament to the Iraqi people’s commitment to democratic governance and national stability. The South African government looks forward to the establishment of a new government in Iraq and is eager to enhance bilateral cooperation across political, economic, and other sectoral areas.



Furthermore, South Africa is committed to collaborating with Iraq on global governance issues and promoting shared objectives for global and regional peace, security, and development. DIRCO conveyed its best wishes to Iraq for continued success and expressed a commitment to strengthening the bilateral partnership to advance the mutual interests of both nations.
