KwaMakhutha:The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, Lieutenant General Puleng Puleng Dimpane, has ordered a 72-hour tracking operation. This follows the deadly shooting in KwaMakhutha, south of Durban, where 11 people were killed.
According to South African Government News Agency, Dimpane has expressed concern over the tragic loss of lives and extended condolences to the victims' families while wishing the injured a quick recovery. She emphasized the need for decisive police action, urging the mobilization of all resources to capture those responsible. Investigators are reportedly following a promising lead that could lead to a breakthrough.
The incident occurred in the Ziko area on the night of Tuesday, September 22, 2026, when armed suspects allegedly entered a house and opened fire on people gathered inside. Three individuals were injured in the attack.
The South African Police Service stated that the motive for the shooting remains unclear, with investigations ongoing. They appeal to the public for any reliable information that could assist in identifying the suspects, urging people to contact Crime Stop anonymously or use the MySAPS APP.
Preliminary reports indicate that the victims, including a pregnant woman, were reportedly at a party when the assailants attacked. Ten people, including the woman, died at the scene, while four were hospitalized, one of whom later died.
Police suggest that some victims were under investigation for illegal activities, though details remain undisclosed to protect ongoing investigations. A possible feud between rival groups is also being considered.
