Suspect Arrested for Possession of Unlicensed Firearm and Ammunition in Delmas


Delmas: A 26-year-old male suspect was arrested on 13 June 2025 in Delmas for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Police acted on a tip-off regarding suspicious activities in the area and conducted a targeted search operation. During the operation, the suspect was found in possession of a 9mm firearm with its serial numbers filed off, one magazine, and 38 live rounds of 9mm ammunition.



According to South African Police Service, the firearm and ammunition were confiscated. Further investigations are underway to determine the origin of the weapon and any possible links to criminal activities in the Delmas area. The suspect is expected to appear before the Delmas Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 17 June 2025, facing charges related to the unlawful possession of the firearm and ammunition.



The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to determine whether it is linked to or was used in the commission of other crimes. The South African Police Service (SAPS) continues to encourage community members to report any suspicious activities or information about illegal firearms to their nearest police station or contact SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111.



The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed the arrest and thanked the community for their cooperation. ‘If we continue to work with the community by reporting criminal activities to the police, we can reduce crime in our country and ensure safe and free environments for all,’ he said.
