Tembisa:Gauteng police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was discovered at Mooifontein Cemetery in the Vusimusi section of Tembisa on Saturday, 26 September 2026.
According to South African Government News Agency, the deceased, Ntombifuthi Nxumalo, was found with serious head injuries, and stones were discovered around her body, suggesting she may have been stoned. Investigations revealed that there were no visible stab wounds at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Nxumalo had been drinking at a local tavern with a female acquaintance before leaving with an unidentified man. Residents near the cemetery reported hearing a woman screaming and pleading for her life around 11 p.m., as stated by Gauteng police spokesperson, Brigadier Brenda Muridili.
Following these developments, investigators traced the suspect to an address in Tembisa and found he had traveled to Limpopo. A multidisciplinary team, including Crime Intelligence in the Ekurhuleni District, Tembisa South detectives, and the Head Office Investigative Psychology Services, located the suspect in Mohlabaneng village with assistance from SAPS Bolobedu.
The suspect was found asleep and arrested at approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday. Experts from the Gauteng Local Criminal Record Centre supported the investigation.
Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, praised the team for their swift response and coordination. Dimpane emphasized the commitment to pursuing perpetrators of murder and gender-based violence to ensure they face justice.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni also commended the team for their investigative work. Meanwhile, investigations continue into other cases involving women's bodies found in Ekurhuleni, with police actively following leads.
