Suspect Behind Bars for Drugs and Firearm Related Charges


Cape town: The co-operation agreement between members attached to Western Cape Flying Squad and Metro Police aimed at halting the illegal distribution of drugs has yielded significant results. Five suspects, including two females and three males aged between 24 and 32, were apprehended for possession of mandrax.



According to South African Police Service, on 31 July 2025, at approximately 14:30, authorities acted on a tip-off regarding a silver VW Polo containing drugs at a fast food retailer in a shopping mall on Robert Sobukwe Road, Ravensmead. Officers promptly followed the lead, resulting in the arrest of the five suspects found with 6000 mandrax tablets. The drugs have an estimated street value of R240 000.



The suspects are scheduled to appear in the Bellville Magistrate Court on Monday, 04 August 2025, facing charges related to the drug possession.



In a separate incident, Delft SAPS members detained a 28-year-old male for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on 01 August 2025 at 11:30 in Abedare Street, N2 Gateway, Delft. Acting on information about an individual armed at the specified location, officers pursued the suspect after he attempted to flee, eventually apprehending him in a neighboring property with a 9mm firearm and eight rounds of ammunition.



The individual is also set to appear in the Bellville Magistrates court on Monday, 04 August 2025, for charges pertaining to the firearm possession.
