Temporary Lane Closures Announced on R21 Due to Sinkhole Rehabilitation

Pretoria: The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has announced the temporary closure of two fast lanes on the National Road R21, Section 2 Northbound, at Olifantsfontein. The lane closure, starting at kilometer marker 0.3, is due to the rehabilitation of a sinkhole, with the project expected to conclude on 30 April 2026.

According to South African Government News Agency, SANRAL has stated that these closures are essential to facilitate the rehabilitation efforts and subsequent road repairs. Road users are advised to plan their travels accordingly, paying close attention to traffic accommodation signage and flag persons’ advanced warnings to ensure both their safety and that of the construction personnel.

Progress Hlahla, SANRAL’s Gauteng Provincial Head, emphasized the importance of adhering to these advisories, stating that the measures, though inconvenient, are vital for improving the safety and quality of national roads. SANRAL has expressed apologies for any inconvenience caused and has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining and enhancing road safety standards.
