Trade Minister stresses need for new approach to relations with Europe in meeting with Hungarian Foreign and Trade Minister

Tunis: Minister of Trade and Export Development, Kalthoum Ben Rejab stressed during a meeting with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó Monday the need to develop a new approach to relations with the European side based on the link between trade, sustainable development and technology transfer in order to achieve mutual and fair benefits for both sides.

The meeting focused on the importance of developing relations between Tunisia and the European Union, whose rotating presidency will be held by Hungary from July 2024, according to a ministry statement.

The minister said that the level of trade between Tunisia and Hungary does not reflect the level of political and historical relations and the opportunities available to develop and strengthen them, as it is still modest compared to other European countries, despite the continuous development of its volume since 2004.

She stressed the need to intensify meetings and business partnerships. She also reviewed the development of the eco
nomic integration process at African level and stressed the importance of European support for the development projects launched by Tunisia in the context of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

The two ministers agreed to update the executive programme of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Export Promotion Centre and its Hungarian counterpart.

They underlined the keenness of both countries to promote economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and to raise the level of exchanges to a level that reflects the depth and strength of the relations between them.
