Tunis: Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), Noureddine Taboubi, stressed on Thursday that "trade union rights are a red line that must not be crossed, adding that the UGTT is committed to dialogue, social negotiations and the implementation of previously signed agreements". He pointed out that the steering committee, which met last week, had adopted a series of measures, including the continuation of activist movements in defence of trade union rights. In a statement to TAP on the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the death of trade union leader Habib Achour in Sfax, Taboubi said that the social situation in Tunisia is difficult due to rising prices and the deterioration of citizens' purchasing power, noting that pensioners from the national social security fund had not received a pay rise. "The commemoration of the death of trade unionist Habib Achour is held every year on March 14 in recognition of the late trade union leader and his militant work for the country's indepe ndence," he added.
