Qumbu: A 37-year-old man from the Balasi locality was reported missing at the Qumbu Police Station on Tuesday, 09 September 2025, having last been seen on Saturday, 06 September 2025, in Qumbu village. Qumbu Detectives, led by Detective Captain Nongcawula, initiated an intensive investigation to locate the missing man.
According to South African Police Service, information was received on Thursday, 11 September 2025, about two male suspects from Magqubeni locality – Tyirha A/A, aged 32 and 34. They were reportedly seen assaulting the missing man in town, accusing him of stealing a television set and clothing items. The suspects were traced and found on Friday, 12 September 2025. They led the police to the location of the deceased’s body, which was discovered floating in the nearby Qumbu village river, with legs tied with a rope and bruises all over.
The two men were subsequently arrested and charged with murder. They are scheduled to appear before the Qumbu Magistrate Court on Monday, 15 September 2025. OR Tambo District Commissioner Major General Norman Modishana praised the Qumbu Detectives for their diligent work and urged them to ensure that justice is served for the deceased.
