Two suspects are due in court for drug laboratory

GAUTENG – Two suspects, aged 29 and 51, are expected to appear in the Pretoria Central Magistrate’s Court on 17 February 2023 for operating a narcotics drug laboratory.

The arrest originates from the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation which culminated into search and seizure operation on Wednesday, 15 February 2023. The intelligence driven multi-disciplinary operation was carried out at a unit in Chrystal Gardens complex, Emberfield, Centurion.

Various formations of the police that included the Hawks, Pretoria West Visible Policing, Weirdebrug police, Public Order Police and Home Affairs officials swooped at the identified unit. The resultant search uncovered a drug laboratory inside the unit’s garage.

Various equipment including crystal meth, chemicals and a small piece of gold were confiscated to allow for further investigation. The value of the seized items is not yet determined. The pair was charged in respect of contravening the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act.

The Gauteng Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Ebrahim Kadwa has commended the team for their tireless efforts in making sure that the drug trade is continuously disrupted.
