Upholding social justice requires establishment of new social contract (Maddouri)

Tunis: Social Affairs Minister Kamel Maddouri stressed on Wednesday that adapting to change and upholding social justice requires the establishment of a new social contract with the tripartite participation of governments, employers and workers, who must commit to renewing this contract. Addressing the 112th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, he noted that the report of the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) for this session, entitled "Towards a renewed social contract", highlighted the challenges facing the labour market. "These challenges are stimulated by technological innovations, demographic and climatic changes and their negative impact on the evolution of unemployment indicators in the world," he pointed out. He stressed that Tunisia is currently seeking to consolidate the social protection system as part of a global approach aimed at combating poverty and promoting the economic and social empowerment of all social categories. "Tunisia is seeking to strengthen consultations and promote dialogue between all parties in various fields in its efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), foster social justice through decent work and combat all forms of precarious employment," he added. The Minister of Social Affairs recalled Tunisia's constant position in favour of the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Al Quds as its capital.
