Cape town: Following a shooting incident in Abedere Street, Delft, on Thursday, 11 September 2025, members of the Anti-Gang Unit and the Delft Crime Prevention Unit pursued information related to the event on Friday, 12 September 2025. This investigation led them to a residence in Nyanga Street, N2 Gateway, where a search revealed a 9mm pistol and ammunition. Six suspects, aged between 19 and 29, were apprehended for possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Additionally, one of the suspects is being questioned in connection with the murder. According to South African Police Service, once charges are filed, the suspects will be required to appear in the Bellville Magistrates' court. In a separate incident, while conducting crime prevention operations in Gugulethu on Friday morning, members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team observed a male attempting to conceal himself near NY108 by the cemetery. Upon searching the individual, authoriti es discovered a 9mm pistol lacking a serial number in his possession. Searches of three other males resulted in the confiscation of another 9mm pistol and a shotgun. The individuals were unable to provide firearm licenses or permits and were subsequently arrested for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The suspects, aged 24, 43, and 45, are scheduled to appear in the Athlone Magistrates' court on Monday, 15 September 2025.
