“Zitoun Zarrazi culinary route to Dahar mountains:” Discover jewels of southern Tunisia’s heritage

Nearly 25 villages in the Dahar mountains, covering three governorates - Tataouine, Mednine and Gabes - form a new tourist circuit in southern Tunisia, which has just been officially launched as part of the "Zitoun Zarrazi culinary route to the Dahar mountains." This route is part of the Culinary Route of Tunisia programme part of the Promotion of Sustainable Tourism project, implemented by the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts with the support of GIZ and jointly funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union as part of its Tounes Wijhetouna programme. According to the GIZ, this new route is an immersion in the history of the civilisations that have succeeded one another in Tunisia, and a journey to discover the jewels of southern Tunisia's heritage. Implemented by the Association for the Protection of Ksours and the Conservation of the Heritage of Béni Khedache, this route showcases the historical, human, cultural, tangible and intangible heri tage of southern Tunisia, through creative and culinary tourism experiences jointly designed with local farmers, craftsmen and tourism entrepreneurs, as well as with villagers from the Dahar mountains: Taoujout, Matmata, Zmerten, Toujen, Beni Khedech, Gomrassen, Douiret, Ksar Hadeda.
