Tunis: The Democratic Current party on Monday called on those who have expressed their intention to stand as presidential candidates to engage in "serious dialogue on ways of imposing minimum conditions for candidacy, fair competition or withdrawal." The party criticised in a statement the conditions and decisions published by the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE), saying they contravened the legal rules governing the electoral process and are likely to hamper candidacies and the collection of endorsements. In a statement to the media on Saturday, ISIE President Farouk Bouasker underlined 'the determination of the ISIE Board to guarantee a credible electoral period and to apply the electoral law to all without discrimination." A number of political activists announced their intention to stand as candidates in the presidential election set for October 6. Some of them have begun to prepare a candidacy file, notably by collecting endorsements. Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
